I am trying to locate the source of an image that appears on the back dust cover of my copy of The Spirit of Indian Painting (Goswamy):
I couldn't find a credit for this image in the Goswamy text. It is very tiny on the back cover. On a Google reverse image search, only a few rug advertisements came up. I could recreate and work out my design idea from its layout, but I always like to reference my sources. Is anyone familiar with this type of image, and where do you suggest I look to find out more?
Oh @Mary Yaeger , this is beautiful! look forward to seeing what you do with it <3
Yes, it would not be difficult at all to replicate the design, placing birds or other images into a geometric pattern or tile. I think it's a very charming pattern, and fun to explore further. Thanks for your suggestions.
I suspect, because of its size, that it may be part of a margin from a bigger image, and therefore fairly hard to source exactly - however - you may instead be able to find similar images in margins of miniature painting of the Mughal school specifically, you could try that? As you're browsing images, look outside their frames and in the margins you may find littler images such as the above. I hope you find something you like!
