The British Library show Medieval Women in their own Words is a must-see if you're in London - if not, here is a photo story below for you to browse!
Christine de Pizan is the main woman that springs to mind... top of mind. The City of Ladies - there are others, and they are covered in this show
I sprained my ankle recently and thankfully medicine today is so sophisticated. I was touched by this story
Smelled amazing! Love how they made this show as sensuous as possible and interactive too
I thought moxibustion was a Chinese medicine thing but apparently more widely practised
Well done
A birth girdle! Makes sense
Well done again
;-)
Imagine only having one book. If you had only one book, what would it be? (1001 Nights for me!)
Generous ladies
:-)
Not so bad
Oh this was hilarious. It made it relevant to a contemporary audience and let us imagine - a really fun little game
More forward thinking
Well done Wales
Iceland!
I wonder if the same for Muslim communities - may be similarities, women had sometimes more rights than Christian women. That's not to say they had 'rights' as we know them today, they weren't liberated - just that Christian women were more oppressed
This is really bad luck
Brilliant
Now I'm moving house and downsizing. In the past, this was all the possessions a (rich) woman had. We have way too many things today... the average European owns 10,000 things now! Makes you think...
I love this
The Luttrell Psalter!
Working women
Multi-hyphen careers
Tower escaping the frame
Really? Wow! I had the impression there were more
Fun
More smells
Embroidery on a book page - inspirational
END - go see if you can!
