The tradition of painting on copper is an old one. The Encyclopaedia Britannica has an entry on 'miniature painting' in another sense of its meaning: European portrait miniatures - Nicholas Hilliard et al. https://www.britannica.com/art/miniature-painting I'm glad to see that this venerable encyclopaedia mentions the fact that the word 'miniature' was not originally in reference to its size, but derives from the word 'minium' (red lead)! I'm also excited to finally teach miniatures on copper next month! https://www.vaishaliprazmariteaching.com/book-online?category=f301e791-f251-4144-8b51-78e8a3d4e4c9
