...toddler Kashi truly loves art. He revelled in the private view opening night of the Kalila wa Dimna show and ran around all the paintings. My jacket is reversible, velvet on the outside and Chinese brocade on the inside...
...just like these reversible paintings which are like giant scroll flags...
…so the 4 friends are actually 12 works: 8 reversible paintings and 4 small miniatures at P21 Gallery, 21 Chalton St, London NW1 1JD. The show is up until 11 June and you can join some online events at https://www.kalilawadimnaexhibit.com/exhibition-events - including a live miniature painting demonstration www.kalilawadimnaexhibit.com ...
…I still love that copper glow, beckoning you to come closer...
...the animals exist across each painting, starting in one style then continuing in another. You see the shadows of the other side through the paper too as they are in slightly different running positions each time...
…last image from the opening night, I'll post more installation images when I get them. Those were miniatures on a grand scale. On a smaller scale, I invite you to watch my latest edited meditative miniature films at https://www.theperfectbrush.co.uk/shop...
...and although I feel I am slowly synthesising oils and miniatures in a general oeuvre/gesamtkunstwerk/grand scheme of things they are still discrete entities and I regularly find myself comparing them, extolling the natural qualities of both and loving them at

...and here are some progress shots of bubbles in oil on copper. We chat more about works in progress in monthly meetings I host. The Zoom link is via the Forum https://www.miniaturepaintingforum.com or here's the direct link:

...and some works in progress change drastically. Say goodbye to this camel (s/he'll reappear in miniatures, don't worry) as I'm going to paint Shahrazad or a Painted Lady in oils on top later. Things on the canvas or on the page are mutable. Page canons are not, and neither are buildings, which are literally set in stone. Below are photos from our visit to a Thai temple. Not in Bangkok, but in Wimbledon, London! Breathtakingly beautiful wall painting by 2 Thai artists, one of whom I had the pleasure of meeting: Panya Vijinthanasarn, who is a good friend of my really good friend and wonderful painter Andrew Stahl. A friend of a friend of a friend makes 3 friends (which is also a tale in itself)...
… did you spot Thai Air? We particularly loved this, and the rockets. I had what we call a Clay Day with the kids - when it's particularly hot we occasionally get the air-drying clay out and make things. I made a white house. This month we also had fun studying the shed skin of a Mexican red knee tarantula, courtesy of Caspian's preschool and we also watched our Chinese teachers demonstrate a colour experiment with Skittles. You can arrange them in a circle on a plate and pour hot water on them and they will shed their own colour skins. Taste the rainbow... imagine doing this with the myriad gradient colours M&Ms come in! Must try that one day...
...and lastly, not Thai Airways, not a rocket, but a super duper surprise Helicopter landing in the park by London's Air Ambulance. They touched down, the propellors fluttered to a halt, the crowds gathered round, the door opened and out dropped the men in aviators and helmets dressed all in red, slowly walking like film star A Team alpha heroes. Because they are. They are real superheroes saving lives every day, non judgementally, just doing their job. Hats off to London's Air Ambulance who airlifted an apparently super drunk (was it just alcohol?) wedding guest on a Sunday lunchtime in the middle of a quiet restaurant in a quiet park (!!!). I and my little men in green and red were in total awe. We watched the take-off as well and at the moment of lift-off it was so windy that the kids were almost swept away, it was that powerful. The grass all around flattened dramatically, a minute of airborne wonder on a Sunday. Soaringly yours,
Vaishali Prazmari
