Hello everyone! Just wanted to see if anyone can post a photo of what the very first coat of paint is supposed to look like before the rendering begins? Is it an absolute thin wash or slightly thicker? Still trying out my paints to get the right consistency...mine tends to pool into a point once dried.

hi @rehana.sulaiman, just wanted to agree that I find pooling very challenging, especially for larger areas. Sometimes I have started with building up thin washes and letting them dry out and then burnish before adding another layer. with more practice I am more comfortable jumping in with a thick layer, but it's definitely intimidating!
Yes - I will do and also if you go to the blog at www.vaishaliprazmariteaching.com I have just posted a photo there (but that was using handmade paints, mind) of the opaque coat - you're actually right as it can be either a thin wash or a thicker coat, depending on the miniature technique you're after. The thicker coat is more 'standard' but there is another technique (half-colour mi-rang technique) which uses thinner washes, more akin to watercolour. Water-based paint is very versatile.
